Before you fly

Choose your destination and pick a plan

Browse our destinations, select the data plan that suits your trip length and usage, and complete checkout. The whole thing takes about two minutes — you can do it from your couch weeks before you travel, or even at the airport gate.

💡 Not sure how much data you need? A good rule of thumb: 1–3GB per day for maps and social media, 3–5GB+ if you're streaming or uploading content.

Check your email

Open your confirmation email

Once you've purchased, your eSIM arrives instantly by email. Inside you'll find everything you need to install it — a QR code and a direct installation link. Keep this email handy.

📱 Setting up on the same phone you're installing on? Use the direct link in the email — you can't scan your own screen. If you're on another device, scan the QR code.

Install in seconds

Scan the QR code or tap the link — follow three taps

Your phone will walk you through the installation. On iPhone: Settings → Mobile Data → Add eSIM. On Android: Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → Add eSIM. Follow the prompts — it takes about 30 seconds. Do this on WiFi at home before you travel.

✅ Once installed, your Katara Connect eSIM will appear in your phone settings alongside your regular SIM. You're all set — it won't use any data until you land.

Turn off airplane mode. You're online.

The moment your plane touches down and connects to a local network, your Katara Connect eSIM activates automatically. Turn off airplane mode and you're connected — no queuing at a kiosk, no fumbling with a SIM card, no waiting. Just go.

Common questions

Things people usually ask.

Do I need to cancel my current phone plan?

No. Your Katara Connect eSIM runs alongside your existing SIM. Your regular number, calls, and texts all work as normal. The eSIM just gives you local data in your destination — completely separate.

What if I can't scan the QR code?

If you're setting up on the same phone you're installing the eSIM on, you physically can't scan your own screen. That's totally normal — just use the direct installation link in your confirmation email instead. One tap and you're in.

When exactly does the eSIM activate?

It activates automatically the moment your phone connects to a supported local network in your destination country. Usually within a minute or two of landing and turning off airplane mode — no action needed from you.

Can I still make calls and send texts?

Yes. Your home SIM handles calls and texts as normal. Your Katara Connect eSIM handles data only. Both run at the same time — you don't have to choose.

What if my phone isn't unlocked?

eSIMs require an unlocked phone. Most phones purchased outright or more than 12 months ago are already unlocked. If you're not sure, check with your carrier — most will unlock it for free on request.

What happens if I run out of data?

Get in touch with us and we can help you top up or purchase an additional plan for your destination. Kaya is available 24/7 to help sort it quickly — even if you're already overseas.

Is my data secure?

Yes. Your Katara Connect eSIM connects to local tier-1 networks in each country — the same carriers locals use. Your data is no more or less secure than using any local mobile network.
